Affordable enterprise level flash storage reaches Australia

Dell is shaking up the mid-market storage space with the recent release of the SC4000. The SC4000 is a “full featured, all flash array at a sub $100,000 price point” (ARN 20140324). The SC400 combines both write-optimised SLC, and read optimized MLC flash from the Dell Compellent and EqualLogic range. (storagereview.com 20140624)

The Dell SC4000 Series launched its first model (the Dell Storage SC4020) across the Asia-Pacific region in May 2014.

The SC4020 can scale to 408 terabytes of raw capacity and host up to 10,000 Microsoft Exchange 2013 user mailboxes on a single 2U SAN with 24 hard disk drives. With only 12 drives, the same 2U SAN can achieve up to 129,000 Oracle database workload IOPS (input-output operations per second) with less than one millisecond latency (CRN20140328).

Dell says that users can achieve all-flash performance for the price of 15K disk technology by tiering between flash drive types. Flash drive performance can support applications, such as OLTP database workloads. (CRN20140328).

The SC4000 range enables an enterprise grade storage array at a price point that the mid-market can afford.
