HP recently launched their latest generation of servers, the Proliant Gen9 range. The newest generation of servers are four times faster than the Gen8 model, and have three times more storage capacity.
HP executive vice president, technology and operations, John Hinshaw, said “We think this is going to change the market place for servers,”
The new servers feature new advancements such as HP’s PCIe accelerators and HP DDR4 SmartMemory. There is also integrated management across servers, storage and networking. Gen9 enables faster setup, monitoring and firmware maintenance. In addition Hp’s Gen 9 servers are powered by Intel’s DDR4 processor technology.
The servers are available in blade, rack, tower and scale-out options. Gen9 will also integrate with HP’s Oneview, which enables software-defined management by merging server, storage, and networking into a single set of tools. One platform for management can lead to a 50 percent reduction in the cost of management tools required to license, learn, operate, and maintain an organisation’s computer infrastructure.
